longtime KRP fan, as a burgeoning adolescent, Bailey Quarters was my ideal of what a woman should be. I have often gazed twice at women with the same "look". I worked with one for about 18 months when I got out of college, and she was a "tiny dancer" to boot. Gone are those days, and now there is the presence of time past. Thanks for the update and the great page.

While brousing your site, I relived a bunch of great memories of my childhood. I absolutely LOVED WKRP during its original run, and enjoyed it more while it was in synducation in Canada. As for Jan, every time she appeared on screen, I had the feelings f "hell-o!", and "woaah, what a BABE!" Bailey was the girl next door that everybody loved, and why not? Intelligent, beautiful, and funny. As for Barbra's husband: I guess he likes $3 wine over Dom Perrignon. I guess there's no accounting for some tas es.

I understand that WKRP is supposedly coming to Nick at Nite this summer. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I read somewhere that during the days of WKRP, most of the cast members were not fond of Gary Sandy, who played Andy Travis. He sure disappeared aft r WKRP and did not appear on the new WKRP, neither did Jan. That's why I only like the old WKRP with all the old cast members.

I must admit that I have wondered about this love for Loni Anderson's character in WKRP, Bailey deserved a hell of a lot more time than she got. I think that the reason that Jennifer was so popular on the series was due to her being an "unreachable type of woman", in that, she tended to prefer men who were "older and RICHER" than the rest of us. But the truth be know Bailey was the one we thought was unreachable, since her beauty was much more subtle and elegant than Jennifer's. Also, she was just to much smarter the men who prefered the Jennifer type. I had (have) a major crush on Bailey Quarters (Jan Smithers) and was very heart broken when I heard that she married James Brolin (though I hoped that it would make her happy). By the way, I did not notice any mention of a short lived series that Jan Smithers did (or appeared in) soon after WKRP called ( I believe) "Leg Men". Thanks for doing the web site, because I was starting to believe that I may have been one of the only people left in the world who like Jan

thank you for your articulate, intelligent, rational discussion of why the year 2000 is more important than 2001. it's very disheartening to see otherwise bright people claiming that since "there was no year 0", that 2000 doesn't matter. well, if you're going to base your whole life around something that may or may not have happened 2,000 years ago, you might as well start up the Spanish Inquisition or something. i'll be partying this december.

This is a great website! WKRP is one of my favorite shows, although it doesn't air in my area anymore. Luckily, I have a boxed set of the series. It contains three videos with three episodes each. The episodes include this one where Bailey gets arrest d for going inside a men's restroom, the two-parter where this sleazy photographer takes nude pictures of Jennifer, and the two-part pilot. I haven't seen Jan in anything except for an episode of Murder, She Wrote. I've also seen Gary Sandy on Murder, S e Wrote, and in a recent movie called "An Unlikely Angel." He looks just like he did on WKRP.

About the Millenium: Of course everyone one (including me) is going to celebrate the new Millenium in 31 Dec 1999. But one thing is for sure: the new Millenium begins in 1 Jan 2001, period. Saying that it begins in 1 Jan 2000 is the same as saying that February begins at 31 January :-)

Jan Smithers IS the ultimate. I had hoped to find a site about this true beauty. I think thing that is appealing to those of us that adore her is that she has an approachable quality. She is the person we would all enjoy knowing, but with illuminating attractiveness. One of the messages stated that they had to "tone down" Jan's exceptional body so as to not detract from Loni. I noticed that early on during the run of the show. No matter how much they tried to do that, it was obvious that Jan's body as magnificent. Please tell me that there is at least a bathing suit shot of Jan out there somewhere to satisfy my lifetime fantasy. I appreciate your list of 'obscure' (I apologize for lack of a better word) women. I would like to see others add to that list of names. One name I would add is Meghan Gallagher (TV's Millenium). She has received almost no word of mouth in spite of her outstanding acting ability (and phenomenal body). Do others have names they would wish to add?

I really enjoyed your comments and your web site is very nicely done; however, I do think that technically you are incorrect as to the the beginning of the new millennium. Socially and culturally you are right on - and the popular flow will go with the Ja . 1, 2000. Anyway, a hundred years from now it won't make any difference what anyone does about the entire thing. So I'm game to go with the flow. Have a great year no matter what! JDT

wonderful surprise coming across this site (found on the Cinema Crawler actor list). the Mary Ann/Ginger analogy is right on target. I was for both Bailey and Mary Ann. Both Jan Smithers and Dawn Wells had one big thing in common -if you look carefully, both actually had larger busts than their co-stars but for the sake of the hype (especially on WKRP), had to be covered up. Jan was definitely far more beautiful and sexy than Anderson, who just had a very phony and manufactured look to her (figuratively and literally).

That whole thing about Jan Smithers still amazes me to this day. I suppose if the Internet and e-mail had been around during the WKRP days the viewers could have explained to the power-that-be that Baily was our favorite. The fact they brought back WKRP and it flopped without Baily gives us a tiny bit of vindication. Trying to replace Baily was like trying to replace Julie McCoy as cruise director of the Love Boat. And why Jan never reappeared as a regular on some other sitcom is baffling - cause she as still in the workplace and popping up on a couple of shows from time to time. She had that "star quality," meaning that she was one of those people, that once you saw her, you wanted to see her again and again. Good work on your site, cause yes, there really never has been much said or written about her. Maybe some day she will rop you a note and give everyone an update!

Scott managed to capture my sentiments about Bailey/Jan perfectly. She had such a tender vulnerability about her character, not to mention her beauty. Loni was way too much. But Bailey! I even thought about contacting Jan, but never did. Bailey was mo t beautiful when she dressed up for her date with Johnnie. Great jeans, fluffy, curvy purple sweater, and a stand-up tweed jacket. I still remember her sadness over getting stood up by Johnnie as she sat on the window ledge outside the DJ booth. She ga ed plantively out over the Cincinatti skyline as Venus played a touching song from the Commodores (?) "For a while..." Ah, Bailey....

Hi, I really liked your site on Jan Smithers. She was my favorite girl on WKRP, and I had been trying to find out what happened to her since that show ended. For some reason, I think of her every time I hear "Tiny Dancer" as well. I don't remember all the words to the song, but my feeling is that Bailey was the person always in the background trying to make things flow ("continuity director"?), not unlike the "seamstress for the band" in the song. Keep up the good info, and please post more as you get them.

The last year of the Millenium is the year 2000, not 1999. As you state, this stems from the count starting at one, not zero. (There never was a year zero) This also explains why this is the 20th century. Formal documents typically state the year as the XXXXth year of our Lord". Another analogy is that of dollars and cents. Since you start counting at one penney you only have a dollar when you have the 100th penney. The 100th penney is considered part of the first dollar, not the next dollar. This point seems to be lost on the press (hard to believe I know). Tom Brokaw the other night refered to Nov 7th as being the last election of the Millenium. He of course is wrong on that. And we know that the public believes whatever the press says, even if it IS wrong. Be that as it may, there certainly is nothing wrong with celebrating the odometer rollover. Any excuse for a party and it maps well to the dumbing down of our school system.
