Here are the comments. The times listed are UT, or
Greenwich, or Zulu, or whatever the hell they are calling it these
days. (And why does England get to have the master time,
anyway? We need to move the zero meridian right through the US
Capitol and the hell with Europe! Who's with me?)

TNN is now re-running WKRP, and that prompted me to run a Web search for one of my favorite actresses, Jan Smithers. That's how I found your great site. It's gratifying to know she is appreciated.
You may already know this, but the Johnny Fever character was very loosely based on a DJ named Skinny Bobby Harper, who actually was fired from an Atlanta radio station for saying "booger" on the air.
Thanks for the site about Jan and the latest news on her.

It was good to find your site. Like so many others I found Jan Smithers very attractive, much more so than Loni Anderson. I knew that she had relocated up here in Canada a number of years ago but the only info I had was she lived in Toronto for a few years and based her career out of there but I didn't know she lived in Halifax now. Keep up the good work

Wow! Jan Smithers fans should [and obviously do] rejoice. WKRP was perhaps the most literate comedy show ever to air - we badly need it back in re-runs. And Jan was my second favorite character, second only because my old friend and Carnegie Tech drama department classmate, Rich Sanders, was also in the show. If there's ever a balloting for the most beautiful woman ever to appear on TV, Jan would surely get my vote....and LOTS of others' votes as well. Whereever she is, may her days always be pleasant.

Having found your web-site by accident, I was stunned by its depth (and length). I loved WXRP because of my love of radio and I was an admirer of Jan Smithers, too, and I hope she's well.
I too, sensed that you were hurt by criticism of your well-intentioned web-site. Don't be. Understand that no one is what they appear to be. As I kept reading your web-site, looking at updates down through they months and years, I hoped that, in the end, I would see one from Jan Smithers herself, but, if she is as your adulation-based examination describes her, that won't ever happen. She's way too shy.
Let me tell you something you might find odd. You would be disappointed if you ever heard from her. She is a fantasy that exists somewher between our minds and video tape. An image that never truly existed. She could never say the absolutely correct words to make you feel fulfilled about all the effort you've put in. I've had experiences meeting someone I idolized years later and that person can't live up to the years of affection we have for her.
I've seen the face and and the personality appeals to me, too. I downloaded the full-page signed 1981 publicity photo and I was stunned by how beautiful she was. I adored her, too. Your web-site made me feel good that someone who looked that good, in fact, was that good.
That's all I need to know. I wouldn't want to see her now. I wouldn't want to invade her privacy. But I identify with your feelings. She represents hope to you. Hope that beauty of flesh and of spirit are not inconsistent. Hope that someone that inspiring still awaits you.
You think you could enjoy life and succed to an unlimited degree if you had someone like her. You think you could be a better person if you were with someone like her. And you know what, you are probably right.
But you are OK anyway. You are the one with the spirit. You are the one who was motivated to do all this without the realistic hope of any concrete return. Don't let this exprience discourage you. It sounds as if it has.
She may have been (and may still be) a gift from God and a treasure of pleasure to be near. But you connected with thousands of people simply through the pureness of love you had for someone you could never meet because the character never existed and the real woman is a quarter of a century older now.
You have the soul of the best of us and the young at hearg spirit of the rest of us.
Thanks again for the web-site.

Comforting to know I'm not the only 40ish guy in the world with a soft spot for Jan Smithers.
Just for the record,For me,it was Mary ann, not Ginger,Brigette Hanson on "Here come The Brides"
Terri Garr anywhere ,Marcia on the Brady bunch ,
(Though, ironically, Susan Olsen grew up cuter, and is much closer to my own age,)And, I married a shy lady with long hair and big glasses. Bob Freukes , St.louis Mo.

as a long-time fan of WKRP, this is quite a treat.what frustrates me about watching the re-runs on TNN now and E channel a few years ago, was the way some of the classic songs used in the originals were replaced, Tiny Dancer is one of them. only a die-hard fan notices, but I know there's more of us out there than the broadcasters seem to think. great!c-ya celia

Hello,
Thanks for being there. My significant other and I just had an argument about a character in 'Another Stakeout'. She thought the neighbor woman was Jan Smithers. I said I didn't think so and given her acting credits, doesn't look like she did anything after 1987. My deepest sympathies for you and your experience of unintentionally annoying your idol. Dave

Scott, et. al.,
Ahh, found it! Clothmonkey and what have to be the nicest images of a bespectacled JS probably anywhere. A return trip from the optometrist left me wondering what i was missing....! A heroine for all of us (with glasses) who are a bit to shy, a bit too quiet, and a bit above average! (I live in Minneapolis thus the Garrison K. monologue) You've a great site and furthers the memories of other wonderful, memorable ladies, Marsha Strassman (Kotter) and Diane Venora (F/X) to name a few.
I'll check back on occasion... thanks again!

I was just watching reruns of WKRP on TNN. During the opening, I saw Jan Smithers. It renewed the crush I have had on this BEAUTIFUL woman for years! I was glad when I signed on line and found your web site. I have read every word, and would like to thank you for this site. Keep up the good work, but your last update has been a long time ago. My motto:
"Practice senseless acts of randomness. Practice, practice, practice."
Another favorite motto:
"Please don't hate me because I'm an asshole". (Stolen WITH CREDIT from "Please don't hate me because I'm beautiful")
And my last motto:
"I'm too old to sell my eggs".
Oh, wait, no there's one more:

Thank God I'm not alone!!!
I could never understand why every guy on the planet wasn't head over heels for Jan
once we met her on WKRP...she played Bailey as the kind of girl every guy would love
to take home to mother, and let's face it, those days that she showed up for work in
jeans made for quality viewing (and I mean that as a sincere compliment).
Jan, if you ever surf to this page, remember, we love ya! All the best to you for
happiness and success in everything you do. You definitely helped to make WKRP a

Disagree with almost everything political on yr site... but the power of a woman, huh? You're still near the top of my bookmarks thanks to Jan. Don't fret over the ET business re Jan. As the man said, and speaking as a guy who moves in showbiz sometimes, actors value their fans. Only the shallowest, most headstrong or star-addled hold grudges. I can't imagine that a talented actress who has had such undeservedly little success could be called any of the above things. Jan is probably free of the star system and its economy which nurtures such paranoia and animus.
Keep it low key, but keep us posted. And any video swappers out there for WKRP? Or early MASH?

The unknown is perhaps the attraction of Jan. If she contacted the page and we knew all about her present life and status, the quest might be over. Sure, she was pretty, and a contributor to the show but the other seven in many cases, were given stronger parts.
The mystery draws us to the need for information about Jan Smithers. Her obvious aloofness in refusing her fans and even her former co-workers is driving me away.

Just found your site today, like others... I watched WKRP and thought about doing a search for Jan too. Same reasons, thought then and still do that she was one great looking lady with a beautiful personality as Bailey.
Always hoped that she was more like Bailey in real life to comeplete the fantasy. Glad to have read that it sounds like she is. A great tribute site to a great looking lady!!!!!

I love the Jan Smithers page. Man, I forgot what a hotty she was. I also share your "quirky" taste in babes, especially with the glasses like Bailey had -what I like to call the "dirty librarian" look: sure, she may look sweet and innocent, but once the lights go out - she lets down her hair, the glasses come off and she turns into a sex-crazed animal! (at least that's what I like to imagine)
I had to do a search on the names in your list of other potential fan pages, since I didn't recognize any of them, but I at least recognized their faces - all very beautiful women. Here's a short list of some of my "quirkier" loves: Pam Dawber, Patricia Richardson, JoBeth Williams. - John V.

Hi, I'm Tom Lawford ( tlawford@alum.mit.edu ). I'm a solid Kipling fan, have memorized
much of his poetry, to the end that I can completely bring any chatty cocktail party to a
grinding halt when I begin to Kiple. I was surprised and delighted to find "The Betrothed"
on the web. Thanks for your effort in putting it here. Its nearly 100F here in downtown
Washington DC today, so I am also going to print out Pagett, M.P. to read on the subway
going home. Re the 100F. Since God gave us Freon (or at least Dupont did) the ride
home wont be uncomfortable.
Thanx for your page, Tom

In regards to the Jan Smithers Newsweek article - since I work in a library and my
curiosity got the best of me I looked that issure up. The actual date is March 21, 1966.
What you were told is correct that she is on a motorcyle and looking over her shoulder.
Also there is a bit on her in the actual article, telling what it is to be a Malibu teenager.
Two additional pictures of her include one where she is walking on the beach and another
where she is eating an ice cream cone. Most libraries have Newsweek back that far so
you could check it out for yourself. You might have all this information, but I thought I
would pass it along to you. Nice Website.

Yeah, OK, so she was technically a "minor actress" from 20 years ago, but what an inpression she left on our hearts! She walked off with mine, anyway. Not that I haven't been floored by other beautiful women, but with Jan it was more than beauty, wasn't it?! She's one of these women who has the whole package and that intangible quality that other fans will recognize even though I can't put it into words. I had another famous woman who captured a piece of my heart, Canadian pairs figure skater and 1984 World Champion, Barbara Underhill. I one day did a search for her on the net and found that Barb had a Web Page and better yet a discussion board where fans could leave her messages,... better yet, Barb read the board regularly and occasionally answered questions herself! I started posting and became a regular then helped out where I could. Today, I'm not only a fan of the, now retired, Barb Underhill, I'm the moderator of the discussion board and one of the few people who have Barb's email address. While there can never be any romantic relationship, (she's married to a great guy), If you mention my name to Barb, she knows who I am and she trusts me. I don't suppose I'll ever have the privilege of reaching a similar relationship with Jan Smithers, but sometimes dreams do come true. In any event, wherever Jan is and whatever she's doing, I hope and pray that she's happy and enjoying raising her daughter and at peace. Barb always says I'm good with words, but I can't find words to express this feeling. It just is...
My email is <fred.williams2@sympatico.ca> and my Web site is at <http://www3.sympatico.ca/fred.williams2/Web001.html> soon to be updated, but there's a photo of Barb & I at the top. Barb had her arm around me and I'd just told the photographer to take her time,... so the smiles are genuine.

I loved Baily on WKRP even though Jennifer upstaged her. I never understood why people perfered madeup blonds to the natural beauty and inocents of Baily?
Unknowingly my last girlfriend of 7 years resemembled Jan or (Baily) very much. I never knew why I put up with her? Now I know, she was my Baily…
Yes my now ex-girlfriend broke my heart, and I would do it all again...not with my exgirlfriend of course but with someone who looked like her. Ya it's superfical I know, but Baily was more then just looks. She was pefection!
Jan Smithers created a LOVEMAP in my head...She is my ideal...And I will be forever messed up... Thank You!!!
Jan Smithers, I love you for creating Baily, not because I think you’re Baily.
Yours truly,
Tony Nunno

This is unbelievable .I was just watching the tnn reruns yesterday and remembering how I was in love with the character of bailey.I also thought she was ten times hotter than loni andersens character.I thought I was the only one.It may sound pathetic
but I hope I find a girl like that someday.Anyway I love this site. The wkrp reruns remind me of a time I can never recapture my youth.I love that show .Thanks for the site and thankyou Jan.Jason

Hey. I found your site while searching for pages on Jan Smithers, and I found the only one I need!! This is the only one I've been able to find, as well, so....
Yeah, so yesterday I saw the WKRP episode where Ivan the russian guy was on the show. That was definetly one of my favorite episodes, and it inspired me to check out some Smithers sites.... that's where I found yours! great site!! Keep up the good work!
By the way, you wouldn't know the town in Nova Scotia that Jan is living in, would you? Or.. how about her email adress? You seem to know a lot about Ms. Smithers. Sure, there's an age gap (she's 52, I'm 16), but I'd still love to get in touch with her!
Thanks,

Look at this Jan , how many people remember you and love you in one way or another (including ME)
You were always the BEST and my favorite WKRP person, a breath of fresh air every time you appeared.
This past May ('01) I bumped into my favorite singer of all time (Petula Clark) and had a nice little chat right in the McArthur Mall in Norfolk Va , while many others walked by just a few feet away, not recognizing the 'First Lady of British Rock' Maybe if I'm just a little lucky, the same thing will happen and my wish to meet my favorite actress will come to pass, none other than YOU , Jan Smithers. We miss you Jan...............respectfully, downtowntweety@enter.net

Hi,
Love your page. I too am a big Jan/Bailey fan. I was so happy to see that WKRP is back
on TNN every week day at 09:00 AM on the east coast...
I want to thank you for the wonderful job you have done on this tribute page. I have
book marked the page and will revisit it every now and then. Hopefully, you will start
doing updates again so that we can all enjoy the new stuff as well as the old...
I will have to make it a personal quest to go up to NS and catch a glimpse of my all time
favorite woman. I believe that she embodies everything that a woman is supposed to be.
I know that I will probably hnever get up to Halifax, scheduling and time wouldn't permit
a frivilous trip on the chance of seeing Jan.
So in leiu of a trip to Nova Scotia, I will visit your page and be guarenteed a glimpse of
that beautiful face.

Thanks for the excellent Jan Smithers pages. I think that 'WKRP' was the hippest TV show that ever aired, and I have been totally smitten with 'Bailey' ever since seeing the show for the first time. That Jan Smithers could ever have thought of herself as 'ugly' is truly a mind-boggling thing. I think Loni Anderson was great in her role as 'Jennifer', especially in the episode where she plays the 'airhead' (this is the one where the station employeees successfully foiled an attempt by Mama Carlson to use an outside
'expert' to improve ratings), but there was never any contest between Loni and Bailey as to who was more attractive; it was Bailey all the way! More my 'type', as you say. She was as close to the 'ideal' as it ever got, as far as I'm concerned. I hope she is having a happy life with her art and whatever else she is doing.

I just found your website today. I don't know why I never tried a web search on Jan Smithers before. I "fell for" her as soon as the show aired. It is good to know she lives in Nova Scotia as I was planning a trip to that area next year. I will keep my eye out for her. Thanks for all the info. I hope you haven't given up on updating this site.

Loni Anderson seemed to always get the spotlight, but the one I was looking at was Bailey Quarters. I'm about the same age and found her to be the most naturally beauitful. Too bad she didn't know she was the star of the show.

Dear Scott,
Great web page on Jan Smithers! After reading it, it struck me again how small the world is-like déjà vu all over again. I thought I was the only closet Jan Smithers fan who couldn't admit in male presence that I would have turned down a date with Loni Anderson to go out with Jan. It also sort of cross-referenced a few events in my life that I didn't even know where related!
In the spring of 1966 I was a senior at Wakefield High School in Arlington VA. Back then Arlington was a middle class bedroom community with a large national cemetery. I was one of about 100 neighborhood kids who started elementary school together and had been in the same class right up to high school graduation. We were a close bunch, about to be broken up by graduation and college. All swore to keep in touch and get together during college breaks. Except for me. That winter, my Dad was moved by his employer to San Francisco. My mother and I were following him to California as soon as I graduated. I was deeply despondent over the upcoming move and loss of my friends. Then came that March 1966 Newsweek cover. A blue eyed, sun bleached blond teenager in tight jeans on the back of a motorcycle was way sexier than what was then deemed appropriate attire and behavior on the East Coast. I had know idea who she was (didn't read the article), but suddenly moving to California was to be envied, not dreaded.
Talk about cultural shock! Moving from the joe collegian atmosphere of Arlington to the flower child/hippie era of San Francisco in 1966 was the most traumatic thing I've done in my life. But some tutoring from fellow junior college classmates soon had me joining Students for a Democratic Society and listening to KMPX-FM at night (back then FM had no commercials). I seem to recall that another KMPX DJ was Sly Stone.
By the mid 1970s I ended up living in Kettering Ohio. Cincinnati was the best kept secret in America when it came to adult entertainment. The Playboy Club was directly across the street form Riverfront Stadium and the Reds and Bengals were perennial conference contenders. Then along came WKRP in the late 1970s, which starred Kettering's own Gary Shady. The production was so much in tune to the city's personality and events that it was easy to forget it was made in Hollywood and not Cincinnati.
I also watched WKRP to see Jan Smithers. I had no clue who she was or that she was that girl on Newsweek. But 15 years later she had the same effect on me that she did in 1966. She had the striking looks that men dream about. Visiting your website 20 years later was truly déjà vu all over again. Keep up the good work. If not for her, then just for us guys who felt she epitomizes beauty.

I'm glad I came across your web-page on Jan Smithers. I've been a big fan of hers since I first saw her on WKRP. She was the very quiet highlight of the whole show. I didn't know much of her background, marriage etc. One thing sticks in the back of my mind though. Wasn't she once Miss Teenager USA?

"Baby, if you've ever wondered; wondered whatever became of me..." Thanks to this GREAT page, we now know whatever became of Jan Smithers. Thanks so much for putting this together and maintaining it. Any plans for a discussion board, forum or chat? You could call the chat room "Bailey's Quarters."
I've loved the show from Day One, and was always a "Jan Fan." I was really excited when "The New WKRP in Cincinnati" aired and like everybody else, majorly disappointed when Jan never turned up in the ensuing episodes. I did tape some of them though, hoping to see her... (sigh)
I even bought Steve Carslile's 45 rpm record of the theme song (which has two additional verses, as all real WKRP fans know). Maybe I spelled his name wrong, but I still have the record. And when the show was in reruns, my kids watched it, loved it, and would sing the theme song around the house. They're both grown now, but I bet they still know it.
Anyway, I'm glad to have found this site. Now I have a refuge to retreat to whenever I want to visit with the WKRP gang. If any of the actors/actresses ever peruse this site and read this, thanks for the laughs, the memories, the integrity and for making a classic show that will always be remembered. And Jan, if you ever read this, much love and peace to you.

cool site about jan smithers. been watching the reruns on TNN & my interest In wkrp has been rekindled. I noticed u liked the show w/ the Russian defector, something strange happened when i recently saw it, at the end when he used to say Hold me closer Tiny Dancer to Les Nessman, now he said "hold my order terrible dresser." seemed silly 2 me, well keep up the good work.

I shouldn't really be surprised to hear that someone else thinks Jan Smithers is as foxy as I do, but somehow I'd always been under the impression that just about everyone but me had the hots for Loni Amderson. I have to agree with you that I could never understand why that would be the case, but I just thought that was the way it was. When I'd watch KRP, I always used to feel bad for Bailey and wish I could tell her that I thought she was tops and that she should be more confident about herself. I also think of her everytime I hear Tiny Dancer. Actually, I was quite surprised, when I recently saw a re-run of that episode, that they'd dubbed some other song over top of it and even dubbed over Mr. Popasonova...'s (they could never get his name right) voice when he whispered in Bailey's ear. I guess Elton John had taken some kind of legal action against using his song. I can't imagine why he would though. It's not really such a great song on it's own, but it suits that episode perfectly.

I think she is one of the most beautiful women ever. The shyness (and the glasses) added to this. She was certainly more attractive than Loni Anderson. She seemed like someone you would like to have known.

This is a very good websight for Jan. I watch WKRP on TNN just to see Jan. I did not see anything in the websight indicating Jan has ever seen it but I woulld think she would be pleased. Keep up the good work.

I'm glad I'm not the only Bailey Quarters fan out here in cyberspace! I classify WKRP in the same class as The Dick Van Dyke Show. I've seen every episode hundreds of times and enjoy them as much as the first time. Thankfully, TNN has them now. I preferred Bailey over Jennifer and also Mary Ann over Ginger. A psychologist could probably tell me about my choices, but I am the same in real life. I prefer the not so obvious, to the drop dead gorgeous. Maybe it's the mystery. Anyway, keep up the great work on the site and hopefully Jan will contact you and offer more insight and history to her life and maybe some behind the scenes tidbits of 'KRP.
On another tangent, I, too was incensed when they edited the music in the episodes, especially the first episode when Johnny plays Ted Nugent as the first song after the format change. I understand that the network has to have permission (license) to play them and the lyrics, but my God, I would think that when the licenses were originally obtained that a sharp lawyer would have had them granfathered in the contract for future airings of the show. At least I still have my imagination and when those episodes are aired, I internally play the correct music.

Hi Scott
I was sitting here thinking, is there any actress that I would like to see again, or hear about again?
Yes, was my answer, it MUST be Jan!
WKRP was shown on South African national TV in the '80s, and as Richard Almassy, Long Beach Californa said, forget about Loni, I instantly 'fell in love' with Jan. (I still think it was her stunningly good looks AND the scar from the accident that did me in.)
I did a search on the new Images option on the Google search page for smithers, and there amongst all kinds of other gifs and stuff, I found a link to your site.
Welldone, and don't dare stop doing updates. I will return frequently to see if MAYBE Jan contacted you.

Strange to say, I never saw "WKRP in Cincinnati" on TV, but I always remembered "the mysterious dark-haired girl" on the cover of a TV-guide back in 1978. It was a photograph of the WKRP-cast, with Loni Anderson as the bombshell. Jan Smithers was the somewhat unknown "other girl", but a thousand times more attractive than Loni! To me, Loni Anderson was "salty", while Jan Smithers was "sweet". Danny Caes from Ghent-Belgium (danny.caes1@pandora.be).

Once again you hear from a Jan Smither's fan who would also have passed on Loni Anderson for a chance at her.
After reading your page (from begining to end) I realized that my choice of a wife(now ex) was influenced more than I realized by the beauty of Bailey. I am now 40 years old and live in Iowa.
I literally stumbled on to your website while looking for the song lyrics of old tv shows for my newsletter. I rarely surf the web.
Thank you - Thank you - Thank you. You have filled a deep curiosity I've had for 20 years. - Hell, I didn't even know that she had been married to James Brolin.
Please don't give up on this page - if I had found the title and no page I would have been broken-hearted. Again, thank you for making a loooong day a little brighter with the appreciation for the truely artistic beauty of the female form that is Jan Smithers.
Sincerely

Thanks for the great website Scott. In the great Loni vs. Jan debate: I'd rather have just had a chance to say "Hi" to Jan than have had a date with Loni. When it comes down to bombshell vs. genuine beauty the genuine beauty of Jan Smithers shines brighter. The real question should be: Has there ever been a greater beauty than Bailey Quarters on primetime television? Looks like there's about 40,000 besides myself that would say "no."

WKRP was my favorite show when it was on, and I never missed it. Jan was/is one of favorites, whether it was her beauty or the fact she was the one sane voice of reason I can't say, but her beauty had to be a lot of it. I think one word describes her more than any other, it would be SWEET. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Without question Jan Smithers is a classy lady. I admired her under-stated beauty and her quite nature. I never thought Jan and Bailey were that different....but maybe that Jan had more confidence than Bailey. Baliey over Jennifer anytime... anyday.

From the far east, a Bailey fan. Unluckily, WKRP reruns never made it back to our shores. My memories of the series are from the one time viewings on regular TV schedules. One other site I visited had quotes from the series and I was so amazed at how well I remember the lines from those first and last time viewings. It was a wonderful series.
And Bailey was my favourite.
All the best, Andy.

As an avid television fan at the time, I had the pleasure of seeing WKRP when it first aired. The first few shows seemed like the cast members were getting to know the characters they were playing. I noticed, as others did that Jan didn't have a large part to play in the beginning, and wrote a few fan letters to the show asking them to increase her role in whatever way would show her more. I loved the show. I turned 48 on November 8th, 2001, and I am originally from Ohio. At that point in time, the concept of the show I felt was well timed. Each character was necessary to make the show work.
There has always been a type of woman which I have been attracted to, but didn't always know why. Jan Smithers fit into that catagory for me. Whether it was her character or her made no difference. I told all my buddies who also watched the show to see Loni that I chose Bailey over Jennifer on the show, and would be honored (and most likely tongue-tied) to meet her if the chance ever arose. She is one beautiful woman. I saw that "Entertainment Tonight" episode that had her on it, and she is still a dazzling and stunning woman. I now live near San Diego, California; and got the chance to be an extra on James Brolins' show "Pensicola - Wings Of Gold", but while I was there, I thought about Jan being there and getting the chance to meet her which I still to this day hope to get.
What ever she is doing these days, I am sure she knows she has a Legion of fans out here.
I thank you for this site, and hope you are able to update it often with pictures and tid-bits.......or maybe even some thoughts and words from Jan herself.

I enjoyed browsing through your site this morning. Where I live in Canada, WKRP runs on the comedy channel twice daily. It is a great show, and even though I have seen most of them, it is great to see them again. I agree with your assessment of who is the most attractive woman on the series; in fact, after viewing the latest show, curiosity about where Jan Smithers is now led me to this site.

Nice Page, but I have to laugh about jan's whereabouts in 1999, with someone saying Halifax is a "small town" Halifax is the largest city in the atlantic provinces boasting some 300,000 in population, and is more and more being a movie location for hollywood, and numerous Canadian Tv shows. parts of "the shipping news" were filmed here, as well as "titanic".
We are a curious people, like others, but we are usually nowhere near the starstruck mentality that americans seem to have and are usually quite respectful and polite of actors. I myself met gordon jump while doing a appearance for a maytag store in 1993, and was far from starstruck, in fact, I enjoyed our 5 minute chat. great guy! remember, he's an actor playing a character, no better, no worse.
Is she still in town???? ET never revealed her location in the weekend WKRP profile, but it's likely she did enjoy here time here in Halifax, and will wherever she goes in Canada. we aren't all mounties and hockey players...hehehehehehehe...
Personally, as WKRP gets played constantly in canada, on the comedy network, I've always thought jan was a babe, but like most actors, I cannot help to wonder about them as a person. OK, we know about Bailey Quarters, but I wouldn't mind meeting Jan Smithers myself, the same way I met Gordon Jump. People confuse the two a little too easily don't ya think???? maybe that's why she is shy.

The last time I searched for information on Jan Smithers was several years ago and I didn't find your site at that time. Just ran across it tonight and read in from start to finish. Nothing I can add other than to say, Thank you. She seems to be the type of person one would be fortunate to know. An actress whose personality molded her on screen persona but whose character gave only subtle and intriguing hints of the real person. Strange how captivating she still is when all we know of her comes from memories of a few moments televised 20 years ago. Strange indeed. Again, thanks you for your site. - James L. Well, [IMO] i think that Loni, also having theater ability, just kinda like, knows how to "act dumb", if that's what the general stigma about her WKRP charachter [Jennifer the receptionist] is, but this charachter is no more real than is [Bailey], so although the actual "actrons" might be so little or nothing like their [theater] charachters, i somehow still have the notion that any kind of improvisational acting requires not only exceptional "IQ"(i don't believe in "IQ tests" anyway), based on the fact of my currently being a "cast member" of a live online theater thing that's kinda like, in "the Star Trek universe"; my charachter's just kinda like, "that one dude, ya know(?)", Todd Dodd(t.o.d.):), EEH(Emergency [Engineering] Hologram)(the EEH is a "holoperson", kinda like Voyager's EMH/ECH, "Doctor"). If u've ever had to run a starship, particularly the engineering department, u'll wish u had 1 of these installed on your ship. Picture this: You're getting shot up by the meanest "bullies" in the entire universe that u know of, your shields are damaged and offer no protection, and all your weapons banks are [not there] either, and your warp/impulse engine system couldn't blow a leaf out of your hand; options:1)Stick your head between your knees to make a rather futile attempt at bracing for impact of the shock wave when your ship is blasted to powder or vaporized;2)Say: "Computer: Activate EEH". The EEH, not being actual flesh and blood, can work under conditions that'd normally toast or otherwise kill [flesh-and-blood] beings...ok...i'll shut up now!

Without doubt, WKRP stands fast as one of my top 5 favorite TV shows of all time, even after nearly 20 years have passed since being dumped by CBS. The ensemble of the original cast, production team, and crew was often magically hilarious, always entertaining. But, I must openly admit, when Jan Smithers was on-screen, nothing else held my attention. For me, she will always be the most desirable actress these eyes will ever see. On the proverbial 10-scale, Jan/Bailey will forever be an 11, "babies"...Steve Greene, sapdrummer@charter.net

Nice to know that I'm not the only one that finds Jan Smithers incredibly sexy and wholesome (unlike the majority of viewers who prefer Loni Anderson...Ugh!!!).
Great website (very professional and informative).
